Pika Pika, a term in Tagalog meaning “finger foods” or “little snacks,” is a passion project that pays homage to my childhood in the Philippines. Growing up, I was surrounded by a warm and welcoming community of family and friends, where every gathering was centred around an abundance of food. In Filipino culture, we don’t do things small—especially when it comes to food. Even our “little snacks,” known as pika pika, are served in generous portions, embodying the spirit of sharing and togetherness.

The Inspiration Behind Pika Pika

In the Philippines, we don’t have the traditional ‘morning or afternoon tea’; we have pika pika. It’s delightful tradition that brings people together over a variety of delicious finger foods. The idea for Pika Pika was born from these cherished memories, where even a simple gathering meant an array of snacks that could fill you up. It’s common to hear someone say, “so pika pika lang (just finger foods)?”—a phrase that perfectly captures the casual yet abundant nature of these gatherings.

Pika Pika is all about bringing a modern twist to this beloved tradition, offering a curated selection of finger foods designed to foster connection and joy. It’s more than just the food; it’s about the moments shared and the memories created around these delightful bites. Pika Pika is perfect for all the girlies who love “girl dinners,” where the focus is on enjoying good food in great company.

What’s In The Box?

Think of a traditional platter box with cheese, crackers, grapes, and dips. Now, imagine it with a Filipino twist: pork sisig sliders, spring rolls, fresh fruits, and some pandesal. Whether you’re planning a picnic date with your friends or a cozy dinner under the stars with your SO, Pika Pika adds a special touch to your moments, making them even more memorable.

Platter Box Design

We’ve carefully designed the Pika Pika platter box to reflect the essence of Filipino hospitality. The front of the box features playful illustrations, adding a fun and approachable feel that appeals to late Gen Z and millennial audiences. These vibrant illustrations not only capture the lively spirit of Filipino gatherings, also make the box visually appealing and Instagram-worthy. Our goal is to create a packaging experience that feels like a celebration in itself, making every moment with Pika Pika joyful and delicious.

The Story Behind The Illustration

Growing up in a place where colourism was (and still is) the norm, I believed that to be beautiful meant having lighter skin and being extremely petite. As a girl with darker skin and a bigger bone structure, I never felt pretty, especially since I was always out in the sun playing football and other sports. It wasn’t until I moved to New Zealand that I embraced my skin tone as beautifully tan and became confident in my own skin.

When it came to the illustrations, I wanted to represent Filipinas authentically. I drew women with darker skin tones, used bold colours to make them pop, and showed diverse body types because beauty isn’t a one-size-fits-all! 💚
